About the Role

Our client, a rapidly growing chemical innovation company, is seeking a highly experienced Chemical Process Scale-Up Specialist to join their fully remote team. This role is crucial for bridging the gap between laboratory-scale discovery and commercial manufacturing, ensuring that new chemical processes are robust, efficient, and scalable. You will be responsible for developing scale-up strategies, designing pilot plants, troubleshooting scale-up challenges, and ensuring smooth technology transfer to production. As a remote-first position, you will collaborate extensively with R&D chemists, process engineers, and manufacturing teams across different locations using advanced digital tools. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in successfully scaling up complex chemical processes and a deep understanding of the principles governing chemical engineering fundamentals.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategies for scaling up chemical processes from laboratory to pilot plant and commercial scales.
• Design pilot plant operations, including equipment selection, process flow, and safety considerations.
• Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for scale-up operations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges encountered during scale-up and technology transfer.
• Collaborate virtually with R&D, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure successful process implementation.
• Develop mass and energy balances, equipment sizing, and process control strategies for scaled-up processes.
• Prepare detailed technical documentation, including scale-up reports, operating procedures, and technology transfer packages.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality standards throughout the scale-up process.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in chemical process scale-up.
• Mentor junior engineers and chemists involved in scale-up activities.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in chemical process development and scale-up.
• Demonstrated success in scaling up diverse chemical processes, including batch and continuous operations.
• Strong knowledge of chemical reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat/mass transfer.
• Proficiency in process simulation and modeling software (e.g., Aspen Plus, CHEMCAD).
• Experience with pilot plant design, operation, and data analysis.
• Excellent understanding of process safety principles and hazard analysis techniques.
• Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional remote collaboration and communication abilities.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage complex scale-up projects effectively.
